Step 1: Check Your Internet Connection
The most common cause of failed downloads is an unstable internet connection. Video files can be large (100-500 MB), and any interruption during the download will cause it to fail.
Quick Connection Test:
- Open a new tab and go to google.com — does it load instantly?
- Try loading a YouTube video — does it play without buffering?
- If either fails, restart your router/modem and try again
Connection Tips:
- Use WiFi instead of mobile data for large downloads
- Move closer to your WiFi router for a stronger signal
- If possible, use a wired (Ethernet) connection for the most reliable downloads
- Avoid downloading during peak hours (evenings) when your ISP may be congested
Step 2: Try a Lower Quality
Higher quality = larger file = more chances for the download to fail. If a 4K or 1080p download keeps failing, try:
- 720p — Still HD quality, about half the file size of 1080p
- 480p — Good quality for mobile viewing, much smaller file
- Audio only — If you just need the audio, this is the smallest download
Once you confirm downloads work at lower quality, you can try higher quality again later when conditions are better.
Step 3: Browser-Specific Fixes
Chrome Fixes
- Clear cache:
Ctrl+Shift+Delete→ Clear browsing data - Disable extensions: Go to
chrome://extensionsand toggle off ad blockers temporarily - Update Chrome: Menu → Help → About Google Chrome
Firefox Fixes
- Clear cache:
Ctrl+Shift+Delete→ Clear Recent History - Try Safe Mode: Help → Troubleshoot Mode (disables all extensions)
Safari Fixes
- Clear cache: Safari → Settings → Privacy → Manage Website Data → Remove All
- Check Downloads settings: Safari → Settings → General → File download location
Edge Fixes
- Clear cache:
Ctrl+Shift+Delete→ Clear browsing data - Disable SmartScreen temporarily: Settings → Privacy → toggle off SmartScreen
Step 4: Check Available Storage
If your device is running low on storage, downloads will fail silently or produce corrupted files.
- Windows: Open File Explorer → This PC → Check available space on C: drive
- Mac: Apple menu → About This Mac → Storage
- iPhone: Settings → General → iPhone Storage
- Android: Settings → Storage
Ensure at least 500 MB free for video downloads, or 50 MB for audio-only downloads.
Download Error FAQ
Why does the download keep stopping at a certain percentage?
This usually indicates an unstable internet connection that drops briefly. Try downloading at a lower quality, or switch to a wired connection. Some ISPs throttle large downloads — try at a different time of day.
The file downloaded but has 0 bytes — why?
This means the connection failed before any data was received. Check your internet, ensure the YouTube URL is correct, and try again. If using a VPN, try disabling it temporarily.
Can I resume a failed download?
Browser-based downloads typically can't be resumed if they fail mid-download. You'll need to start the download again from YTDownload.us. Consider downloading at a lower quality for more reliable completion.
Downloads work for short videos but fail for long ones
Longer videos = larger files = more time to download = more chance of interruption. Try 720p or 480p quality for long videos (30+ minutes). Also ensure your device doesn't go to sleep during the download.
